Hope
As I write the very short paragraphs that follow, we are only mid-February, and it is as if the skin of trees, and of shrubs, is just itching to burst forth in vivid green.
Spring is coming, and will be here soon. In the lower elevations all of the snow will eventually melt, the rain will ease back, and the sun inch higher and higher above as the Earth cycles around it.
Day to day, we have another chance at building the world fresh. Each morning, each Spring, each lifetime... these are opportunities to help lead our world back to a recognition that the Earth is sacred and that life is a miracle.
What awe, what reverence, what appreciation comes when this gift is seen for what it is!
Some write and ask for groups, and associations that can help them find such gatherings. Often these are people who are already skilled in shamanic practice, or already walking a path of Earth-based spirituality. Yet, whether we are new to these things, or have done them for years, such gatherings won't happen unless we gather.
I want to encourage you to in turn, help encourage hope in our world. Help lead our communities back to a recognition of the sacredness of each breath, and intrinsic value and beauty of all beings that live on this planet. Help the world turn its eyes back to the Earth, and see the majesty of mountains and the sanctity of the desert. We are doing such things here in the Santa Cruz area of California.
I would like to share with you the experience of a student who had, for the first time in her life, been able to sing her soul song, a shamanic practice that allows one's true self - the deepest, most essential part of one's being - to be expressed openly in the world. To be able to sing it, is to truly become free from self-repression. It is a liberating experience, and can point us in a profound maner back to our original and possible, wholeness and integration!
Here, she speaks:
"I just have one thing to say about singing my soul song, WOO HOO!!! I have heard of this before but I have never tried it. I was a little apprehensive at first, thinking “I'm not sure how to do this.” But I said to myself well soul lets give it our best shot.
At first the song came out soft. Then it built up to a loud crescendo as if my soul was saying here I am! I felt a wave of energy start deep in my pelvis that traveled up and out of my head. Then the song changed into this playful melody and before I knew it I was dancing around the room. I felt many spirits around me, they seemed to be watching and curious as to what I was doing.
This was such a liberating feeling. What a feeling to express your true essence this way! I felt happy, energized and had a smile all day long. On a more serious note, it felt good and comforting to interconnect with my soul this way. I will definitely continue to practice this on a regular basis."
'Woo Hoo' is right! Who could say it better than that?! To be able to return to our wholeness is such a rich, essential thread throughout all of shamanic practice, and has been so since the dawn of such practices easily 30 or 40 thousand years ago. This is a path to tremendous healing, something that belongs to you, and for which you deserve to be reunited.
Hope. It is part of a cycle of reflection, discovery, and hope. To feel this cycle happening in us is something for which we deeply yearn, even when we do not realize this.
No matter where you are, I urge you to find a strong shamanic teacher from whom you can learn these ancient and so humanly healing ways.
Whatever you do, think about it. The path is yours if you choose.
